CBS News Correspondent Apologizes for Criticizing Abdul El-Sayed
CBS News correspondent Jan Crawford deleted a post and apologized after calling a response by Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed a spectacular self own.
CBS News correspondent Jan Crawford deleted a post on X and issued an apology after criticizing Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. The controversy began during a town hall where a voter asked El-Sayed to disavow the Muslim Brotherhood. El-Sayed responded, "Sure. Yeah. Absolutely," but then questioned why the voter assumed he held dual loyalties because of his Muslim background.
Crawford posted that El-Sayed's response was a "diatribe" and a "spectacular self own." CBS News subsequently ordered the deletion of the post, and Crawford stated the content was a "violation of CBS News standards."
The incident drew polarized reactions. Democratic strategists and critics called for Crawford's termination, alleging she supported a GOP operative, while the media watchdog NewsBusters defended her right to express her opinion. Meanwhile, Republican opponent Mike Rogers appeared on CNN and denied that El-Sayed had disavowed the organization, despite video evidence showing the candidate did so.
