Seriake Dickson Defends NDC Leadership Amid Internal Criticism
NDC leader Seriake Dickson defended the party's nomination of Peter Obi for president, sparking criticism from activist Aisha Yesufu over his leadership style.
National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, confirmed the party has nominated Peter Obi as its presidential candidate and Rabiu Kwankwaso as the vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections. Both men joined the NDC after departing the African Democratic Congress due to internal divisions and court cases.
During an interview on Arise Television, Dickson rejected claims that the party owed a favor to the high-profile candidates, asserting that the NDC provided the necessary platform for their run. He denied that nominations were sold for financial gain and dismissed reports of a party crisis, though he cautioned that supporters of Obi who disparage the party structure undermine the candidates' prospects.
Political activist and NDC member Aisha Yesufu criticized Dickson's televised appearance, accusing him of prioritizing his own ego and appearing in competition with Peter Obi. Yesufu alleged that Dickson failed to pacify aggrieved aspirants following irregularities in the party primaries, specifically citing failed Senate primaries in the Federal Capital Territory. She urged the party leadership to take responsibility for these mistakes and focus on rescuing Nigeria rather than defending personal relevance.
