Meta released Muse this month, an AI personal agent designed to identify and cancel recurring subscriptions for consumers. The tool targets the friction and inertia that subscription-based businesses often rely on to maintain revenue, particularly as average annual subscription spending in the United States reached $1,887 in 2025.
Some companies have responded to the rise of such tools by offering pause options to improve retention, while others have taken direct action. Amazon blocked Muse from shopping on its site, citing violations of its terms of service.
Beyond subscription management, the release of agentic AI has raised concerns regarding the broader financial system. Analysts warn that these agents could automatically move household cash from low-interest checking accounts to higher-yield options, which may deprive banks of cheap deposits.
