Singareni Collieries Ships First Coal From Odisha Mine

The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) achieved a historic milestone on Thursday by transporting the first railway rake of coal from its company-owned Naini Mine in Odisha to the Singareni Thermal Power Project in Telangana's Mancherial district. The shipment consisted of approximately 4,000 tonnes of premium G-10 grade coal transported in 59 BOXN wagons over a distance of 1,131 kilometers from the Hindol railway siding.

The Naini coal block, containing 340.78 million tons of reserves with an annual production capacity of one crore tons, was allocated to SCCL by the Union Ministry of Coal in 2015. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka described the arrival as a historic milestone for the state's power needs. The current Congress-led government alleged that the previous BRS administration ignored the coal block between 2014 and December 2023.

Following the delivery, the Government of Telangana expressed its commitment to strengthening SCCL and signaled plans for the company to expand into the exploration of critical and rare earth minerals. Buddhaprakash Jyoti, the chairman and managing director of SCCL, credited the achievement to the cooperation of the involved governments and Indian Railways.
