Sweden Opposition Lead Narrows Ahead of General Election

The Social Democratic Party and its opposition coalition saw their lead over the governing bloc narrow to 2.6 percentage points according to a Novus poll commissioned by TV4. The opposition currently holds 50.3% of the vote, while the government led by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson holds 47.7%. This represents a significant decline from a 6.9-point lead recorded last month, though a separate Demoskop survey published last week showed a wider lead of 5.7 points.

Campaigning has entered its final stage with early voting already underway. The Social Democrats are proposing higher taxes for top earners to fund public services. In contrast, the Moderate Party is proposing lower income taxes for high earners.

The government-allied Sweden Democrats continue to advocate for harsher criminal penalties and restrictive immigration policies. Additionally, the smallest party in the current government saw its support rise to 3.3% in the latest Novus poll.
