Chief Minister Vijay Secures ₹15,300 Crore in UK Investments

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay returned to Chennai after a six-day UK visit that secured up to ₹15,300 crore in investments and 10,000 new jobs.

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay returned to Chennai on September 17 following a six-day official visit to the United Kingdom. The delegation secured investment commitments totaling between ₹12,300 crore and ₹15,300 crore, which are expected to create over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs in renewable energy, auto components, and Global Capability Centres (GCCs).

Key agreements include an ₹11,000 crore commitment from Samvardhana Motherson International and a ₹1,000 crore GCC investment by Ernst & Young. Additionally, Wilson Power Solutions Limited signed an MoU for a ₹300 crore transformer manufacturing plant in Tiruvallur, while Sigma Kudos committed to expanding GCCs in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli. During the tour, Vijay met with Indian High Commissioner Kumaran Periyasamy to discuss the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement and visited the Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit to study technology for a proposed Motor Sports City.

Public engagements in London faced significant disruptions. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party cancelled personal meet-and-greet sessions after the Metropolitan Police Service issued safety directives. This followed an incident where hundreds of fans gathered outside The Shard, prompting the party to appeal to the Tamil diaspora to avoid gathering at hotels or transit routes to ensure public safety.
