North Korean AI Hackers Steal $6.3 Billion from Binance
The North Korean hacking group TraderTraitor used artificial intelligence to steal $6.3 billion from Binance to fund banned weapons programs.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has attributed a $6.3 billion cryptocurrency hack of Binance to TraderTraitor, a state-sponsored North Korean hacking collective. The elite unit, estimated to consist of only about a dozen members, utilizes artificial intelligence to execute high-value thefts.
Rather than targeting individual investors, the group employs a strategy known as Big Game Hunting. This approach uses AI to identify and compromise high-value cryptocurrency businesses.
These heists provide critical financial support for the North Korean government. Reports indicate the stolen funds generate enough revenue to finance nearly half of the country's military expansion and banned weapons programs.
