India Post Hits Record Revenue Over 4,000 Crore Two Quarters
The Department of Posts reported a 25% revenue increase in the second quarter, marking the first time it exceeded 4,000 crore for two consecutive quarters.
The Department of Posts of India achieved record financial growth in the first half of the 2026-27 fiscal year, exceeding 4,000 crore in revenue for two consecutive quarters for the first time in its history. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced that the department earned 4,202 crore in the second quarter ending September 30, 2026, a 25% increase over the 3,355 crore earned during the same period last year.
This growth was primarily driven by a 71% surge in parcel services, a 44% rise in Postal Life Insurance and Rural PLI, and a 38% increase in international business. Total revenue for the first half of the year rose nearly 24% year-on-year to approximately 8,213 crore. The department also improved its cost efficiency, with the expenditure coverage ratio, excluding pensions, rising to 62% from 54% the previous year. Performance in the Bihar, West Bengal, and North East circles specifically exceeded expectations.
During a review meeting in New Delhi, Scindia and Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani directed postal circles to accelerate digitalization and diversify into agro-logistics, tourism, and rural logistics. Scindia urged chief postmaster generals to operate like CEOs by adopting commercially focused strategies and utilizing customer data analytics through platforms such as Dak Seva and Dak Mitra to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
