China and Ecuador Expand Trade Ties With New Roadmap

China and Ecuador signed a bilateral economic cooperation roadmap as trade between the two nations grew 20 percent in the first half of 2026.

Bilateral trade between China and Ecuador reached 9.83 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of 2026, marking a 20 percent increase year on year. This growth establishes China as the second-largest trading partner of Ecuador, following the implementation of a free trade agreement more than two years ago.

To further these ties, the Ministry of Commerce of China and Ecuador's Ministry of Economic and Productive Development signed a roadmap for bilateral economic and trade cooperation on August 19. The agreement includes a memorandum of understanding designed to support free trade and multilateralism.

The two nations agreed to increase coordination across several sectors, including agriculture, food, e-commerce, and sustainable development. Both governments committed to the full implementation of their free trade agreement and pledged to avoid unjustified discriminatory economic and trade measures against one another.
