Google Launches AI-Powered Business Calling and Deep Search
Google integrated agentic AI calling for local businesses and the Gemini 2.5 Pro model into Search and Chrome for United States users.
Google launched a series of AI-driven updates to its Search platform and Chrome browser, introducing agentic capabilities that allow the system to call local businesses on behalf of users. The calling feature, available in 45 U.S. states, enables users to request pricing, availability, and appointment bookings from businesses like restaurants and dry cleaners. The AI identifies itself as a Google automated system during calls and delivers consolidated results via email or SMS.
As part of a broader update to AI Mode, the company integrated the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, which enhances reasoning for mathematics and coding. This model powers Deep Search, a tool that executes hundreds of simultaneous queries to generate comprehensive, fully-cited research reports. While the calling feature is rolling out broadly to U.S. users, Gemini 2.5 Pro and Deep Search are restricted to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers participating in the Search Labs experiment.
Additionally, Google integrated Gemini AI directly into the desktop version of the Chrome browser for U.S. users on Windows and MacOS. This integration allows paid subscribers to access page summarization, information analysis, and Gemini Live voice conversations without leaving their active web page. Users can toggle between the 2.5 Flash model for general tasks and the 2.5 Pro model for complex reasoning.
