Scorpio Tankers Sells Three Ships to Order Four Newbuilds
Scorpio Tankers Inc. is selling three product tankers and ordering four new scrubber-fitted vessels from Chinese shipyards as part of a broader fleet expansion program.
Scorpio Tankers Inc. entered agreements to sell three existing product tankers and purchase four newbuilding vessels to refresh and expand its fleet. The company is selling the STI Dama for $37.5 million, the STI Elysees for $70.0 million, and the STI Veneto for $73.0 million, with all three transactions expected to close by the end of 2026.
To replace these assets, the company ordered two scrubber-fitted LR2 product tankers from Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. for $72.8 million each, with deliveries scheduled for late 2029. Additionally, the company contracted Hengli Shipbuilding (Dalian) Co., Ltd. to build two scrubber-fitted Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) for $135.0 million per vessel, expected in September and October 2028.
These acquisitions are part of a larger fleet expansion strategy. The company has entered into additional agreements or letters of intent for 17 more newbuildings, including five MR, eight LR2, and four VLCC vessels.
