Unconventional AI Acquires NeuReality to Scale Energy-Efficient Chips
Unconventional AI is acquiring Israeli startup NeuReality to accelerate the production of AI chips designed to be 1,000 times more energy efficient than current technology.
Unconventional AI, a Mountain View-based hardware startup valued at $4.5 billion, is acquiring Israeli chip startup NeuReality in a cash-and-stock deal for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition is designed to provide the company with an experienced engineering team to scale the production of AI chips that utilize a dynamical systems approach based on biological systems.
Led by Naveen Rao, the company aims to create hardware 1,000 times more energy efficient than existing technology. While Unconventional AI originally projected a five-year timeline for product development, the use of AI tools accelerated progress, resulting in the creation of a first test chip and the near-completion of a second.
Approximately 40 employees from NeuReality, which was founded in 2019 by Moshe Tanach, Tzvika Shmueli, and Yossi Kasus, will join the company. Unconventional AI intends to maintain a presence in Israel to leverage the acquired team's experience in delivering finished AI chip products.
