Israeli Forces Conduct Ground Incursions into Southern Syria

The Israeli military conducted a series of incursions and strikes in southern Syria between August 6 and August 7, 2026. On August 6, Israeli forces fired three artillery shells into agricultural land near the village of al-Samdaniyah in the northern Quneitra countryside. This followed a Tuesday incident where forces established a temporary checkpoint near the Jbata al-Khashab quarries junction.

On August 7, the military operations expanded into ground incursions across the Daraa and Quneitra governorates. Five Israeli vehicles entered the village of Ain Ziwan in Quneitra to establish a checkpoint, while other troops entered western Daraa and opened fire on two settlements before retreating. No casualties were reported from these actions.

Israel has declared the 1974 Disengagement Agreement invalid following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in December 2024. The Government of Syria has condemned these measures as null and void under international law and violations of national sovereignty. President Ahmed al-Sharaa has expressed a desire to avoid direct confrontation and is seeking a security agreement through the mediation of friendly countries.
