European Commission Pays 3.47 Billion Euro for Ukraine Defense

The European Commission paid 3.47 billion euro to Ukraine on July 30, 2026, as part of a broader 90 billion euro Ukraine Support Loan. These funds are earmarked for urgent military requirements, most notably a 2.5 billion euro contract for 16 Saab Gripen fighter aircraft. Additional procurement includes long-range jet-powered drones, missiles, and air defense equipment.

Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi announced that the allocation will strengthen national defense and finance urgent priority expenditures. By the end of July 2026, Ukraine had received a total of 11.6 billion euro through this mechanism, with 8.4 billion euro specifically dedicated to defense needs.

The loan is backed by the EU budget and is intended to be repaid using future Russian reparations. In exchange for the financial support, Ukraine has committed to implementing democratic reforms, adopting anti-corruption measures, and ensuring the continued independence of the National Bank of Ukraine.
