Surinderpal Rathor Wins Re-election as Williams Lake Mayor

Surinderpal Rathor secured a second term as mayor of Williams Lake, defeating former mayor Walt Cobb in the October 17 municipal election.

Surinderpal Rathor won re-election as mayor of Williams Lake in the municipal election held on October 17, 2026. Preliminary results show Rathor secured 2,116 votes, defeating former mayor Walt Cobb, who received 1,026 votes.

Rathor first assumed the mayoralty in 2022 following twenty years as a city councillor. This victory follows previous mayoral losses to Cobb in 2014 and 2018. Chief election officer Ross Ross Coupé reported that 3,182 total ballots were cast in the race.

The election also determined the composition of the city council. Incumbents Scott Nelson and Michael Moses were re-elected, and Jason Ryll and Paul French returned to their seats. Ruth Lloyd and Nathan Wiebe joined the council as new members, while incumbent Sheila Boehm lost her bid for re-election. The city expects to make the results official on October 21.
