Greg Landsman Proposes Ban on Tech Company NDAs
Representative Greg Landsman introduced legislation to ban nondisclosure agreements between tech companies and officials and shift data center energy costs to corporations.
U.S. Representative Greg Landsman is introducing legislation to regulate the expansion of data centers and prohibit the use of nondisclosure agreements (NDAs) between technology companies and elected officials. Landsman argues that companies such as Amazon have used these agreements to hide tax cut deals from the public, which he claims has contributed to rising utility bills for local residents.
The proposed bill seeks to shift the financial burden of energy consumption from the general tax base directly to the data centers. This effort coincides with local opposition in Wilmington, Ohio, where constituents are attempting to slow the construction of a new data center to ensure community priorities are addressed. Landsman stated that "the way they're doing it, is wrong."
As part of a broader anti-corruption initiative titled the Drain the Swamp bill, Landsman is also advocating for a complete ban on public employees participating in political prediction markets.
