Singaporeans Open to Agentic AI Shopping but Wary of Payments
Global Payments reports that 59 percent of Singaporeans are open to AI shopping agents, though few trust them to handle payments autonomously.
Global Payments released a study on Wednesday showing that 59 percent of Singaporeans are open to using agentic AI to shop on their behalf. Despite this openness, a significant trust gap remains regarding financial autonomy, as only 15 percent of respondents would trust an AI agent to shortlist and pay for items without human intervention.
The research surveyed consumers across seven countries, including the United Kingdom, China, and the United States, to measure comfort levels with autonomous personal commerce. Singaporeans showed a higher demand for regulatory oversight than other surveyed nations, with 34 percent expressing a desire for a government-backed AI safety certification.
These findings indicate that while AI start-ups and payment companies are developing authorized autonomous purchasing systems, consumer adoption depends on the implementation of significant safeguards to build trust.
