Minister Oyetola Condemns Deadly Post-Election Violence in Osun State

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola condemned escalating post-election violence in Osun State following the August 15 governorship election. The unrest peaked on Monday during a clash at the Naira and Kobo motor park in Ikire, where two people were reportedly killed.

The violence allegedly erupted when drivers associated with the Accord Party, the party of re-elected Governor Ademola Adeleke, attempted to take over a motor park controlled by drivers loyal to the All Progressives Congress. Oyetola described the attacks as a "grave assault on the peace, heritage and democratic values" of the state.

Oyetola urged the Osun State Police Command and other security agencies to deploy personnel to volatile areas and arrest those responsible for the killings. He emphasized that no political ambition or commercial interest can justify the taking of a human life.
