Lori Trahan Introduces Bipartisan FRONTIER Act for AI Oversight

Representative Lori Trahan of Massachusetts introduced the bipartisan FRONTIER Act to establish federal oversight for advanced artificial intelligence models. The proposed legislation aims to fill what Trahan describes as missing federal AI governance by implementing reporting requirements, independent audits, and emergency safeguards.

Addressing concerns that the bill might override existing state regulations, Trahan stated that the act creates a "narrow federal lane" while maintaining state authority over privacy and consumer protection. She characterized claims that the bill would strip state power as "completely false".

Beyond the legislative proposal, Trahan called for congressional hearings with major AI companies. She urged bipartisan action to address the specific impacts of artificial intelligence on data center development, schools, and the workforce.
