Washoe County Moves 8,755 Voters to Inactive Status

The Washoe County Registrar of Voters completed bulk voter roll maintenance on August 6, 2026, following the 2026 Primary Election. The agency finalized the process just before the National Voter Registration Act's 90-day blackout period, which prohibits systematic list maintenance before a general election.

To conduct the maintenance, the Registrar mailed 19,554 address confirmation notices. After a 33-day response period, 8,755 registrations were moved to inactive status. The majority of these changes, 8,506, resulted from undeliverable mail ballots, while 249 were based on data from the Electronic Registration Information Center.

Inactive voters remain eligible to vote but will no longer automatically receive mail ballots. Registrar of Voters Andrew McDonald urged citizens to review their registration status to ensure their information is current for the upcoming general election.
