Elizabeth Warren Donates $600,000 to Boost Illinois Democratic Unity
Senator Elizabeth Warren urged Illinois Democrats to unite behind all party nominees and donated $600,000 to campaign and national party funds.
U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren urged Illinois Democrats to unite behind all party nominees during a keynote speech at the Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association brunch in Springfield. Warren called for party unity to win control of Congress and block the agenda of President Donald Trump, announcing $500,000 in contributions to coordinated campaign funds and $100,000 to the Democratic National Committee.
Her call for unity follows a trend of left-leaning and socialist candidates defeating establishment-backed moderates in primaries, including recent victories by Angie Nixon in Florida and Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan. While Warren criticized party leaders for previously meddling in primaries, she emphasized her full support for all current nominees.
Governor JB Pritzker and Senator Tammy Duckworth also spoke at the event, which honored retiring Senator Dick Durbin for his 30 years of service and his role in creating the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton is currently running to succeed Durbin in the Senate.
