BJP Negotiates Tribal Alliances for Tripura Village Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party is conducting high-level organizational preparations and seat-sharing negotiations ahead of the September 28 Village Committee elections in Tripura. These polls, the first in a decade, will determine 4,597 seats across 587 Village Committees in tribal areas.

In Agartala, party leadership including Chief Minister Manik Saha and National General Secretary Biplab Kumar Deb met to strengthen grassroots outreach and coordination. State BJP President Abhishek Debroy urged party unity to ensure government welfare achievements are communicated to every household. While central observers indicate that alliance talks are ongoing, Debroy asserted that the party is prepared to contest all seats independently if negotiations fail.

Tensions have risen with tribal allies, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) and the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), who are demanding a larger share of seats. TMP leader Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma stated his party will refuse any alliance unless a tripartite agreement regarding indigenous land rights is implemented.
