UNICEF Reports Rise in Acute Child Malnutrition in Yemen

The United Nations Children's Fund reported a rise in acute malnutrition among children in Yemen on September 25, 2026. The agency attributed the increase to intensified fighting between Houthi forces and government forces, specifically in areas along the Red Sea coastline.

This instability has disrupted access to healthcare and treatment centers, leading to more severe forms of malnutrition among vulnerable children. UNICEF Country Representative Akhil Iyer briefed reporters from Aden, stating that the agency is concerned about a "very visible increase in acute malnutrition among children."
