Russian Strikes Destroy Orlivka Border Crossing and Hit Odesa

The Military of Russia destroyed the Orlivka international ferry crossing on the Ukraine-Romania border during a series of overnight strikes on September 1, 2026. The attack disabled the crossing and forced the Romanian Coast Guard to temporarily suspend ferry transport across the Danube River at the Isaccea-Orlivka point, redirecting vehicles to alternative checkpoints.

Between September 1 and September 2, Russian forces expanded their operations with massive air attacks on Odesa and surrounding regions. These strikes targeted port infrastructure, energy facilities, residential buildings, and a Nova Poshta postal terminal. Russian forces utilized guided aerial bombs and the new Banderol cruise missile launched from occupied Crimea. Serhii Lysak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration, confirmed that infrastructure was damaged during the assault.

Nationwide attacks over the same period killed at least 16 people, including six railway employees in Kyiv. Russia characterized the intensified strikes as retaliation for long-range drone attacks launched by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine against Russian territory. Ukrainian officials noted the Orlivka strike follows a pattern of targeting border infrastructure, citing a previous attack on the Vynohradivka crossing on the Moldova border in late August.
