Vox Demands Morocco Pay for Ceuta Migrant Crisis Costs

The Spanish political party Vox is demanding that the Government of Morocco reimburse Spain for the financial and medical expenses resulting from a massive influx of migrants into the enclave of Ceuta. Party leader Santiago Abascal has filed congressional initiatives calling for a rigorous audit of extraordinary expenditures, including infrastructure damage, healthcare, and security deployments. Vox characterizes the migration surge as an "act of aggression" by Morocco.

The crisis follows a mass arrival of migrants on July 30, with estimates placing the number of arrivals between 8,000 and 10,000. This surge has pushed local infrastructure to the brink of collapse, leading medical professionals to warn of a "healthcare catastrophe." Ceuta University Hospital has responded by opening a 30-bed emergency wing to manage increasing cases of tuberculosis, scabies, and unexplained fevers.

Local residents have expressed their frustration through public demonstrations, including a rally on August 9 that drew over 10,000 people. Meanwhile, health advocates have highlighted the difficulty of controlling communicable diseases due to a lack of isolation areas and hygienic spaces for the unsheltered population.
