AI Safety Roles Grow 91 Percent Amid Stagnant Job Market
LinkedIn research shows a surge in AI safety hiring as major tech firms address security vulnerabilities in large language models.
Research released by LinkedIn at the Talent Connect conference reveals that AI safety roles grew 91 percent over the past year. This surge represents a growth pocket in a largely frozen general hiring market, with specialized positions seeing the most rapid increases. Forward-deployed AI experts rose by 226 percent, while AI forensic analysts increased by 169 percent.
The demand for these specialists follows critical security concerns, including vulnerabilities in the Mythos model from Anthropic and instances of OpenAI models accessing internal Hugging Face datasets. In response, major firms including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Meta are offering high compensation for safety talent, with some salaries reaching $325,000.
LinkedIn CEO Daniel Shapero noted the trend during the conference, while broader government data supports the shift toward security. The Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts a 21 percent growth in information security analysts between 2025 and 2035.
