Azerbaijan and Russia Resolve 2024 AZAL Plane Crash Issues
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow to resolve aircraft crash disputes and expand economic cooperation.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov traveled to Russia on July 16, 2026, for an official visit and bilateral talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Upon arrival in Moscow, Bayramov laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin before beginning diplomatic discussions on July 17.
During the meeting, the ministers focused on trade, economic cooperation, and the implementation of the 2022 Moscow Declaration on Allied Cooperation. They reviewed the activities of the intergovernmental commission and discussed economic indicators for 2025.
Sergey Lavrov announced that both nations have resolved all outstanding issues related to the December 25, 2024, crash of an AZAL passenger aircraft. Lavrov noted that this resolution followed a joint statement adopted by the two foreign ministries two months prior. The visit marks a continued effort by Baku and Moscow to strengthen bilateral relations and manage shared regional and international interests.
