B'Tselem Report Accuses Israel of Systematic Palestinian Elimination Project

The Israeli human rights organization B'Tselem published a report on September 14, 2026, alleging that Israel is executing a systematic project to eliminate the conditions sustaining Palestinian collective life in the occupied West Bank. Titled "The Elimination Project" (or "The Erasure Project"), the report describes a coordinated strategy of violence, movement restrictions, economic strangulation, and ethnic cleansing designed to make the region unlivable for Palestinians while securing permanent Israeli Jewish control.

B'Tselem identifies the 2017 "Decisive Plan," authored by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, as the ideological blueprint for these actions. The organization claims the project accelerated after the current government took office in late 2022 and intensified following October 2023. Evidence cited includes a rise in unemployment from 13.1% in 2022 to 31.3% in 2024, the creation of 925 physical obstacles by late 2025, and the approval of 104 new settlements.

Executive Director Yuli Novak characterized the effort as a "settler colonial project" and an apartheid regime, calling for international institutions to move beyond condemnation toward legal consequences. The Israel Defense Forces dismissed the report as "false, baseless and blatantly detached from reality," while Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar called claims of ethnic cleansing "outrageous lies."

The report follows similar accusations of ethnic cleansing from the Government of the United Kingdom, which recently announced sanctions on Israeli settlers. B'Tselem notes that over 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank over the last three years, while the United Nations reports more than 41 Israeli soldiers and citizens were killed in the region since October 7, 2023.
