Hurriyat Calls for Black Day as Jammu and Kashmir Celebrates Independence

Leaders in Srinagar framed the protest as a response to what they described as a forcible occupation of the region against the will of the Kashmiri people, claiming India has deprived residents of their fundamental rights and freedom.
Simultaneously, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha extended greetings to the region, urging citizens to celebrate the national festival with pride and a commitment to the country's guiding values. Official celebrations proceeded across Jammu and Kashmir, featuring flag-hoisting ceremonies at various government and public institutions.
The primary Independence Day function took place at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, where the national flag was unfurled.
