Kodiak AI Shares Rise as Tesla Plans Semi Inauguration
Kodiak AI shares climbed following a positive analyst rating while Tesla prepares to inaugurate its Nevada Semi production facility on September 24.
Shares of Kodiak AI rose 5.3% on Tuesday after an Oppenheimer analyst initiated coverage with an outperform rating, describing the company as a long-term winner in the autonomous trucking sector. The company reported a second-quarter net loss of $37.7 million and negative free cash flow of $38.1 million, but it has logged over 40,000 paid driverless hours and delivered 20,000 revenue-generating loads through partnerships with J.B. Hunt Transport Services and Atlas Energy Solutions. Kodiak AI intends to launch long-haul highway operations by the end of 2026.
Tesla is positioning itself as a primary competitor in the driverless-trucking market. CEO Elon Musk stated that self-driving capabilities for the Tesla Semi are expected by late 2026 or early 2027, noting that an autonomous Semi is necessary to address truck driver shortages. Tesla began high-volume production in April and will hold an inauguration event for its Nevada Semi production facility on September 24.
