World Bank Finds High-Income Nations Face Higher AI Job Risk

The World Bank reports that high-income countries face triple the risk of AI-driven job automation compared to developing economies due to their dominance in white-collar sectors.

The World Bank released a report stating that high-income countries face a significantly higher risk of AI-driven job automation than low- and middle-income economies. Research indicates that 14.2% of jobs in high-income nations are highly amenable to automation, a rate more than triple the 4.5% share observed in developing economies.

The institution attributes this vulnerability to the composition of these markets, as high-income nations dominate the knowledge economy. The most exposed sectors include finance, technology, legal, accounting, and marketing. The report analyzed a sample of 47 high-income countries across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.

In the United States, this trend is evidenced by severe job losses in the tech sector this year. The World Bank links these losses to direct AI displacement and a strategic shift where companies prioritize spending on AI infrastructure over human capital.
