Hyundai Motor India Opens ₹11,000 Crore Pune Plant
Hyundai Motor India inaugurated an AI-enabled manufacturing facility in Pune to produce the Venue for global markets as part of a $15.5 billion investment strategy.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated Hyundai Motor India Limited's new AI-enabled, Industry 4.0 manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Pune, on October 14. The plant represents an investment of ₹11,000 crore and will exclusively manufacture the Hyundai VENUE for export to more than 35 countries.
The facility begins with an annual production capacity of 170,000 units, which the company expects to increase to 320,000 units by 2030. It also includes an engine shop capable of producing 150,000 engines annually. The opening coincides with the company reaching a milestone of 4 million cumulative passenger vehicle exports from India since 1999.
This expansion is part of a broader strategy by the Hyundai Motor Group, which committed $15.5 billion between 2026 and 2032 to grow its manufacturing, R&D, and local supplier networks in India. State officials, including Industries Minister Uday Samant and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, stated the project will generate significant employment and business opportunities for local small-and-medium enterprises. The Maharashtra government presented the investment as evidence that the state remains a preferred destination for global mega-scale projects, countering opposition claims of an industrial slowdown.
