Houthi Attacks Hit Saudi Arabia as Iran Unveils Drones

Houthi rebels attacked Saudi infrastructure and seven tankers were damaged in the Strait of Hormuz as Iran unveiled new military drone technology.

Security incidents escalated across the Middle East on October 22, 2026, characterized by maritime attacks and infrastructure strikes. In the Strait of Hormuz, seven oil tankers sustained damage from naval mines or direct attacks, representing a potential single-day record since the conflict began in February.

Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for a series of strikes in Saudi Arabia, including attacks on the Saudi Defense Ministry and an Aramco facility. A strike on King Fahd International Airport resulted in the deaths of a Saudi citizen and an Indian national. In response, the Ministry of Defence of Yemen declared that Houthi mobilization rallies are now legitimate military targets.

Simultaneously, the Israeli Defense Forces killed a disabled Syrian man during a raid in Jamla, Syria. The military stated the man was a suspect who ignored orders to stop, noting that soldiers fired "in order to remove the threat."

In Iran, Chief of the Army Amir Hatami unveiled new military drones, including an upgraded Arash model capable of carrying a 100 kg warhead. Hatami stated that Iran has reached a "significant level of maturity" in unmanned systems. Meanwhile, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese urged Indonesia to implement an economic boycott against Israel.
