Ukrainian Drones Kill Two in Wide-Scale Attack on Russia

Ukrainian forces launched overnight drone strikes across a dozen Russian regions, killing two people and targeting energy and economic infrastructure.

The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation reported that its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 635 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles during overnight attacks on Sunday, August 2, 2026. The operations spanned more than a dozen Russian regions, with Ukrainian forces increasingly striking deeper into Russian territory to undermine Moscow's ability to sustain its war effort.

In the Saratov region, approximately 750 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, a strike on a residential building in Engels killed two people. Governor Roman Busargin confirmed the fatalities and noted that civil infrastructure was damaged in both Engels and Saratov city.

Concurrent attacks targeted economic and energy sites along the Volga River. In the Samara region, Ukrainian drones hit a Wildberries warehouse. This attack is part of a broader campaign starting July 18, during which Ukrainian forces have targeted approximately a dozen sites belonging to Russia's largest online retailer to disrupt its operations.
