OpenAI Launches Decisions API to Rival TypeSafe AI's Jev
OpenAI released the Decisions API on October 6 to compete with TypeSafe AI's Jev, a low-cost model for business classification and routine decisions.
OpenAI launched the Decisions API on October 6, 2026, in direct response to the rapid success of Jev, an AI model released in September by TypeSafe AI. Jev was designed for fast, low-cost classification and routine business decisions, gaining immediate traction among Silicon Valley developers. Vercel reported that Jev reached more paid teams in its first 24 hours than any previous model launch.
Developed by TypeSafe CEO Diogo Almeida, a former OpenAI employee, Jev utilizes a custom architecture created over two years to prioritize reliability and cost-efficiency for automated software code. In contrast, the Decisions API leverages the existing GPT-6 Luna model, which OpenAI constrained to provide structured answers.
The two services now compete on speed, reliability, and pricing. TypeSafe AI currently maintains a pricing advantage, offering an input price of $0.042 per million tokens, while OpenAI charges $0.10 per million tokens. OpenAI representative Nikunj Handa credited Jev with inspiring the creation of the Decisions API.
