Kalyan Banerjee Issues Ultimatum to Mamata Banerjee Over Party Rift
TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee demanded Mamata Banerjee choose between him and Abhishek Banerjee after being replaced as legal counsel in a forgery case.
Internal conflict has erupted within the All India Trinamool Congress after senior leader Kalyan Banerjee issued an ultimatum to party supremo Mamata Banerjee, demanding she choose between him and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee.
The rift began when Kalyan Banerjee, who was representing Abhishek in a signature forgery case, was abruptly replaced by a junior lawyer via a text message. Kalyan Banerjee accused Abhishek of arrogance and blamed him for the party's recent electoral defeat in West Bengal, where the TMC secured only 80 of 294 assembly seats.
In response, Abhishek Banerjee, the party's national general secretary, downplayed the friction. He stated he has no grievance against the senior leader and asserted that Kalyan has the right to express his views given their long-standing personal relationship, noting that Kalyan helped raise him since childhood.
