Scripps Cuts 431 Jobs Amid AI Transformation
Scripps eliminated 431 positions as part of an enterprise-wide shift toward AI-powered journalism while creating 100 new roles focused on local reporting.
The media company Scripps announced the elimination of 431 positions on Tuesday as part of an enterprise-wide transformation to adapt to changing news consumption habits. President and CEO Adam Symson stated the company will simultaneously create over 100 new roles focused on local reporting and community connection across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.
These cuts follow a 12 percent workforce reduction approximately three months prior, which was part of a strategic shift toward becoming an AI-powered broadcast journalism company. Since the start of the year, the company has eliminated 432 positions and 126 open roles.
Symson indicated that the company aims to fill the new positions with affected employees where possible. While he noted that the majority of significant restructuring in local newsrooms is complete, he warned that additional smaller-scale cuts are expected.
