India Merchandise Exports Rise 23% to USD 44.4 Billion
India reported a 23.04% increase in merchandise exports for September 2026, driven by electronic goods and petroleum products.
India's merchandise exports grew 23.04% to USD 44.40 billion in September 2026, an increase from USD 36.08 billion during the same period last year. While imports rose to USD 74.61 billion, the merchandise trade deficit narrowed to USD 30.21 billion, down from USD 33 billion a year earlier. Total exports, including services, reached an estimated USD 80.75 billion, representing a 10.99% increase and resulting in a combined trade deficit of USD 13.30 billion.
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal attributed the growth to increased shipments of electronic goods, petroleum products, engineering goods, chemicals, and agricultural products. Agrawal noted that the second quarter of the financial year outperformed the first, with overall export growth reaching 15.84%.
Despite the domestic growth, Agrawal warned that conflict in West Asia could slow global services trade growth to 3.3% in 2026.
