FTC Seeks Court Order to Compel Block Inc. Records
The Federal Trade Commission is seeking a court order to force Block Inc. to provide documents regarding alleged consumer protection law violations.
The Federal Trade Commission is seeking a court order to compel Block Inc., the parent company of Square and Cash App, to turn over records related to an ongoing investigation into potential consumer protection law violations. The agency filed the request in court on Wednesday after the digital payments company failed to comply with a demand for records issued in January.
The probe focuses on whether Block failed to provide adequate customer service for users whose accounts were frozen or deactivated. The FTC believes these failures occurred following significant staffing cuts at the company. The investigation began last year after the agency received more than 1,500 consumer complaints regarding the lack of support for affected users.
