BJP Launches Nationwide Campaign to Defend Electoral Roll Revision

The Bharatiya Janata Party launched a 15-day campaign to counter opposition allegations of wrongful voter deletions and demands for the Chief Election Commissioner's resignation.

The Bharatiya Janata Party launched a nationwide 15-day campaign on October 22 titled 'Loktantra Bachao, Bheedtantra Hatao' (Save Democracy, Remove Mobocracy). Running until November 5, the initiative uses rallies, press conferences, and student dialogues to defend the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar against opposition demands for his resignation.

In Bihar, the campaign operates under the theme 'Ghuspethiya Hatao, Loktantra Bachao' (Remove infiltrators, save democracy). The BJP asserts that voter deletions during the SIR only affected deceased individuals, those registered in multiple locations, or those who had shifted residence. This counters allegations from the Congress, CPI(M), and Cockroach Janta Party, who claim the process wrongfully deleted crores of voters' names.

BJP Kerala President Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated that democracy and 'mobocracy' are incompatible, arguing that governments can only be changed through peaceful voting rather than street protests. He accused the Congress Party and the CPI(M) of deliberately creating anarchy. Similarly, BJP media in-charge Danish Eqbal challenged the opposition to provide a single name of a voter wrongfully deleted during the revision process.
