Violence and Fraud Claims Mar Pulivendula Municipal Elections
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy demanded a repoll in Pulivendula after alleging widespread booth capturing and violence during municipal elections on November 1.
Violence and mutual accusations of electoral fraud erupted in Pulivendula during municipal elections on November 1, 2026. YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, president of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), demanded a repoll, alleging that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists captured 70 of 80 polling booths with police support. He claimed that YSRCP agents were barred from entering booths, media personnel were manhandled, and YSRCP candidate Y.S. Prameela was attacked.
In response, TDP MLC Varla Ramaiah accused Jagan Mohan Reddy of orchestrating premeditated arson and mob violence to disrupt the polls as the YSRCP faced defeat. Ramaiah alleged that YSRCP leaders attempted to bring in outsiders to cast bogus votes and deliberately set their own vehicles on fire to frame the ruling alliance.
Reports from the ground detailed stone-pelting and clashes between party cadres, with voters obstructed from reaching polling stations in several wards. Police remained on high alert as tensions persisted across the region.
