Political candidates in Connecticut and Michigan executed final mobilization efforts on November 1 ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. In Connecticut, Governor Ned Lamont and Republican challenger State Senator Ryan Fazio campaigned in Enfield, a politically volatile suburb, to secure their respective bases. Lamont framed the contest as a rejection of Donald Trump, while Fazio focused his campaign on the high cost of living under the current administration.
Simultaneously, U.S. Representative Jahana Hayes and Republican Chris Shea campaigned across Connecticut's 5th Congressional District. Hayes worked to increase voter turnout in Meriden, while Shea campaigned in Middlebury, highlighting his background and lack of criminal history as qualifications for the U.S. House seat.
In Michigan, the nine-day early in-person voting period ended on Sunday. The Secretary of State reported that approximately 23% of registered voters had returned their ballots as of October 30. The state's key contests include the gubernatorial race between Republican U.S. Representative John James and Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, as well as a race for Secretary of State between Republican Anthony Forlini and Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist.
