Cybersecurity Stocks Rebound as AI Safety Spending Increases

Cybersecurity stocks rose sharply following a market panic, driven by increased spending on infrastructure to secure and govern AI systems.

Cybersecurity stocks have staged a sharp rebound after market panic over AI doomsday scenarios earlier this month. The Global X Cybersecurity ETF rose 10% last week, while individual firms including CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks saw gains of 15% and 10%, respectively.

Société Générale predicts the rally will continue, citing improving fundamentals and earnings-per-share growth that has compounded at roughly 16% per annum since 2020. The investment bank identified a basket of top stocks to capitalize on the trend, including Fortinet, Okta, and CrowdStrike.

Chief US equity strategist Manish Kabra noted that spending is expanding beyond compute into the infrastructure needed to secure and govern AI systems as governments and industry align on AI safety. He added that valuations for these companies remain broadly in line with historical averages despite the recent surge.
