US Treasury Sanctions Yemeni Businessman for Houthi Weapon Supplies

The United States Department of the Treasury sanctioned Yemeni businessman Ali al-Wazir for allegedly supplying materials to Iran-backed Houthi rebels from China.

The United States Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on Ali bin Abdullah al-Wazir, a Yemeni businessman operating in Guangzhou, China. The agency accused al-Wazir, who is known as Prince, of supplying materials used by the Houthis to construct weapons.

These sanctions follow allegations from 2024 that al-Wazir facilitated the procurement of military materials for the Iran-backed rebel group. The Houthis currently control significant portions of Yemen and rely on a network of international traders to maintain their war machine.

The action against al-Wazir is part of a broader U.S. strategy to blacklist multiple Houthi-linked traders. By targeting the procurement chain, the Treasury aims to disrupt the flow of materials necessary for the rebels to build and maintain their military capabilities.
