Michigan Senate Nominee Abdul El-Sayed Deletes Progressive Videos

Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed privatized at least 160 YouTube videos and deleted numerous social media posts following his primary victory in Michigan. The removed content included videos in which El-Sayed supported the defund the police movement, suggested replacing the Second Amendment with a right to health care, and proposed abandoning fireworks on Independence Day.

Republican opponents, including Senator Tom Cotton, have used the unearthed content to characterize the Democratic party as having gone off the deep end. In response, El-Sayed's campaign stated the YouTube page was updated to focus exclusively on campaign content and argued that cherry-picked comments from old podcasts do not reflect his beliefs today.

While El-Sayed continues to advocate for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, his campaign says he has pivoted on policing. He now supports improved funding for law enforcement recruitment and retention alongside investments in community programs.
