Ilhan Omar Lawyers Demand Return of Seized Property

Lawyers for Ilhan Omar have demanded the return of a phone and passport seized during a federal raid of her Washington, D.C. home on Monday. The United States Department of Justice conducted the search as part of an investigation into alleged immigration fraud, which included issuing more than a dozen grand jury subpoenas.

Legal representatives Amy Jeffress and Joshua Matz claim the investigation is politically motivated because it occurred shortly before the November midterm elections. They further allege that federal agents ignored instructions from a magistrate judge regarding the search process. The United States Department of Justice rejected these claims, stating that law enforcement complied with all legal obligations.

The raid followed a Tennessee rally where Donald Trump criticized Omar. Trump later denied any involvement in the probe, stating the matter is the responsibility of the Justice Department.
