McDonald's Launches NEXT Plan After Stock Drops 29 Percent
McDonald's introduced the NEXT plan to integrate AI and simplify menus after shares fell 29 percent from their 52-week high.
Shares of McDonald's closed at $242.67 on October 19, 2026, marking a 29 percent decline from a 52-week high of $341.75. The company is currently the third-worst performer in the Dow Jones Industrial Average for the year, trailing only IBM and Nike. The stock slump follows a period of rising operational costs and a shift in behavior among inflation-sensitive consumers.
CEO Chris Kempczinski acknowledged that execution failures led to customer dissatisfaction. To reverse this trend, the company launched the NEXT plan, a strategic initiative designed to increase annual cash flow by $100,000 per average location. The plan focuses on the integration of artificial intelligence, store renovations, streamlined operations, and menu simplification.
Despite the volatility in share price, the company maintained its long-term investor commitments by increasing its dividend for the 50th consecutive year, bringing the current yield to 3.2%.
