Sondhi Limthongkul Launches Take Back Thailand Campaign

Former People’s Alliance for Democracy leader Sondhi Limthongkul launched a political campaign called Take Back Thailand to pressure the administration of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. Limthongkul aims to establish a permanent grassroots counterweight to governing powers by mobilizing public anger over corruption, rising living costs, and political interference.

While Limthongkul has not called for the immediate removal of the government, he intends to create bargaining power for the people. He plans to rally supporters across several provinces leading up to a September 28 Constitutional Court of Thailand ruling regarding the February election results. As part of a multi-issue strategy, Limthongkul recently led protesters to the Israeli embassy in Bangkok to demand action over alleged law-breaking by Israeli visitors.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul dismissed the movement, suggesting that the campaign could harm the public more than the administration. The movement emerges as the Constitutional Court prepares a decision that could potentially invalidate the results of the February election.
