FTC Settles Antitrust Case With Zillow and Redfin
The Federal Trade Commission reached a settlement with Zillow and Redfin to restore competition in the online rental listings market.
The Federal Trade Commission reached a settlement with Zillow Group Inc. and Redfin to resolve an antitrust lawsuit concerning their partnership on rental listings. The agreement avoids a trial that was scheduled to begin Monday in a Virginia federal court.
Under the terms of the settlement, Redfin will re-enter the market to independently sell online rental listings while continuing to syndicate listings from Zillow. The two companies will pay $2 million to reimburse state attorneys general who joined the FTC in the legal action.
The FTC stated the order aims to restore competition for renters and property managers. Zillow noted the settlement allows its partnership with Redfin to persist, while Redfin intends to reinvest in a stand-alone rental listings business.
