Piyush Goyal Courts US Firms for Investment in New York
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met with executives from IBM, Blackstone, and other US firms in New York to attract investment in AI, insurance, and manufacturing.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a series of bilateral meetings with senior executives from leading United States firms in New York while attending the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting. The engagements aimed to attract deeper investment and expand commercial ties across several high-growth sectors, including artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, quantum computing, and financial services.
During the visit, Goyal met with leaders from IBM, Blackstone, General Atlantic, Neuberger Berman, MetLife, AIA Group, and The Estée Lauder Companies. Discussions with IBM focused on frontier technologies, while talks with AIA Group and MetLife centered on financial services and India's national goal of achieving "Insurance for All by 2047." Goyal specifically urged The Estée Lauder Companies to increase its manufacturing and sourcing within India to capitalize on the beauty and personal care market.
These strategic efforts to attract American capital occur amid ongoing India-US trade negotiations and existing tensions regarding tariffs and a pending bilateral trade agreement. Goyal characterized India as offering "unmatched scale and long-term value creation for global institutional investors" due to the country's resilient macroeconomic fundamentals.
